A high-level Health and Human Services Department advisory group will recommend that federal contracts with health plans and insurers include provisions to reward physicians for good performance, including the use of certified e-health records.
The American Health Information Community has endorsed the recommendation on pay for performance from its Electronic Health Records Workgroup. AHIC is expected to approve the recommendation at its June 12 meeting. AHIC rejected another, more controversial recommendation from the same workgroup that called for Medicare to pay physicians more for using EHRs.
