See this video of Tim Berners-Lee explaining the advantages of the Semantic Web, including a couple of examples of how he thinks it will impact medicine and health emergencies.
He also points out some things that will be needed for the Semantic Web -- such as a more open access to data -- that healthcare companies and institutions may have trouble with, given the current competitive and legal environments.
