EDS Corp. has won a $209.9 million contract from the Indiana Family Social Services Administration to modernize and manage the state’s Medicaid management information system.

Under the six-year contract, EDS will upgrade the state’s MIS with its interChange Health System. New features include a Web-based tool that will let health care providers electronically enroll in the Medicaid program and a number of new internal processes.

The agreement specifies an initial seven-month phase to design, test and implement the new features.

EDS also will continue to be the fiscal agent for the state, its 27,000 health care providers and their more than 800,000 patients. The company also will continue processing claims for other Indiana health care programs.

In keeping with Gov. Mitch Daniels’ Medicaid reforms, the upgraded system is designed to help Indiana extend health coverage to previously uninsured residents and transfers aged, blind and disabled residents to a care management model.

EDS processes about 1 billion Medicaid claims annually in 21 states.
