The Brooklyn Health Information Exchange has tapped Initiate Systems software as its technology for locating, linking and matching patient records.
The regional health information exchange, called BHIX, selected the firm's Initiate Patient product. The software includes an enterprise master person index, which aims to provide a comprehensive view of patient information from dispersed data sources.
BHIX is expected to launch by late July.
Lorraine Fernandes, vice president of Initiates health care practice, said HIEs have emerged as an important market for the company. Initiates HIE customers include CareSpark, a regional HIE based in Kingsport, Tenn.; Louisiana Rural Health Information Exchange; and BHIX.
She added that Initiate customers RxHub and SureScripts serve as exchanges in their own fields and are key components to RHIO organizations.
The Initiate selection marks the second technology announcement involving BHIX in as many months. In January, MedPlus said it landed a contract with the RHIO to provide products and services. MedPlus systems include its clinical portal, data exchange engine, and document management and imaging system.
Fernandes said Initiate Patient works with MedPlus.
Initiate Patient provides the patient search and record locator service and integrates via standard HL7 messaging to MedPlus, where the patient data may reside and is available for viewing, she said.
From the battlefield to the home front: Managing medical data
Government Health IT presents Col. Claude Hines Jr., program manager for the Defense Health Information Management System, in this recent InSight eSeminar. Col. Hines discusses the health information technology and tactical challenges faced by the military medical community in Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas of conflict. In doing so, he describes the current information technology solutions for transferring clinical data between battlefield care givers to health care personnel at military treatment facilities worldwide.
