WASHINGTON – Karen S. Lovitch, a Member and Practice Leader of the Health Law Practice of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., will speak at the 20th Annual Medicaid Managed Care Congress. The congress is being held April 30-May 2 in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Medicaid Managed Care Congress is the largest and longest running Medicaid managed care event. The 20th annual conference will feature three days of presentations and workshops led by top health care professionals, including health plan executives and government officials. These sessions will offer advice on best practices for improving quality and care, complying with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and protecting profitability.

Ms. Lovitch’s presentation, “Understand How the ACA Will Affect Compliance Programs,” will review relevant ACA provisions and discuss the federal government’s increased focus on compliance and program integrity. Ms. Lovitch will also examine the evolution of compliance programs and the federal government’s current expectations. Her presentation will take place on Monday, April 30th at 9:00 am.

Ms. Lovitch’s practice involves counseling health care clients on regulatory, transactional, and operational issues, including Medicare coverage and reimbursement, the development and implementation of health care compliance programs, and licensure and certification matters. In addition, Ms. Lovitch advises clients on the legal, practical, and fraud and abuse implications of business arrangements. Her expertise includes the anti-kickback statute, the Stark law, and state statutes prohibiting kickbacks and self-referrals.

Attorneys in Mintz Levin’s Health Law Practice, many of whom have held senior government positions or served as in-house counsel, represent for-profit and non-profit, domestic and international companies in connection with a wide variety of business and legal transactions, challenges and issues that they confront both on a daily basis and in bet-the-company matters. Clients span the full spectrum of the industry, including hospital systems, managed care organizations, laboratories, long-term care providers, durable medical equipment suppliers, behavioral health companies, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, retail pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers.
